Many women who are at home during the week value the opportunity to meet together. St. John's has a number of groups to cater for this need ...
Digging DeeperDigging Deeper is a daytime Bible Study group (without crèche facilities) for women, meeting fortnightly on Monday afternoons in the Upper Room. Members of the group commit to preparing for each session using study books, focussing currently on the book of Ephesians. Leadership of the studies is shared round the group. New members are always welcome! For further details, please contact Patty McCulloch. MidwayMidway is a group of women aged 40+, which meets on alternate Thursdays from 2:00-3:30pm in the Prayer Room for Bible Study and fellowship. Occasional social events are also organised. For further details, please contact the church office. Talk TogetherThere are five different talk together groups meeting at different times during the week in the daytime(of which four offer crèche facilities).
Most groups will have some time for worship, bible study, discussion and prayer. We also include a time to chat share and encourage each other over coffee, cake or lunch. Many women find these groups a wonderful oasis in the week - a time for their own needs to be met, to learn and to receive encouragement for each other. We believe the impact of these groups is far reaching - into marriage, family life, schools and community. Out of these groups the daytime Alpha course has emerged and subsequent follow up groups. Two of the groups have done the Freedom in Christ course. One of the groups offered practical support to an elderly woman by decorating her home. Another group peeled a vast number of vegetables for a community Christmas dinner in an inner city area. Women's meditation prayer groupThis prayer groups meets on Thursday mornings, 10-12, (term time only). Although the majority of members are from St John's, we welcome several ladies are from other churches in the locality. We rotate round different homes and share leadership, following a different theme each term or half-term. Following coffee, a bible passage is introduced by one member then half an hour is set aside for personal reflection on the passage. Then we have a time of sharing what God has shown us. These are not times for discussion, but times to receive what the Lord has shown each other. We usually then pray about what we have been shown. We end with a time of prayer for each other as needed. Organisers: Contact the church office, or speak to Lesley Osborn, Elizabeth Vale, June Fluck or Gill McIlwaine.
