One of our privileges in being a local church is that we can be there to share with people as they go through both the joy-filled and the difficult times of life.
These events are obviously incredibly personal, so we would always encourage you to get in touch so we can talk in person. However, we do hope the information below is helpful in the meantime.
Congratulations! Marriage is one of the amazing gifts God gives to us, and has always been part of the rhythm of the Church, including when Jesus attended a wedding at Cana in Galilee. If you’re just starting out planning for a wedding, we highly recommend the website ‘Yourchurchwedding.org‘. This site has an incredible amount of information, from finding a church through to thinking about how to build a strong marriage. It’s the best place to start your research.
The Church of England has recently updated its guidance on where you can marry, and this gives couples a lot more choice of where they make their commitment to each other.
You can get married at St John’s if you can show that one of you:
- has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
- was baptised in the parish or
- was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
- has at any time regularly gone to normal church services at St Johns for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
- has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
- has regularly gone to normal church services at St Johns for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents or grandparents:
- was married in the parish
If you would like to arrange Banns of Marriage to be read at St John’s, please contact the church office.
Baptism, Christening, Dedication and Confirmation
These are amazing moments in our journey with God as Christians. They act as waymarks in our relationship with Him, where we make a public declaration of our faith, or are trusted by our parents into His hands for our future growth. It’s no surprise we love celebrating these moments! We have regular services through the year where these special moments are shared with the church community.
If you’re feeling now might be the time to make this public commitment to God, please contact us so we can let you know when our next service is coming up. We also have courses for people preparing for Baptism and Confirmation.
Bereavements & Funerals
Your local church is here for the difficult times in life. We have staff and volunteers able to offer pastoral support, and will do what we can to support you through sad times. You don’t need to be a member of the congregation, or a Christian to speak to us.
We know this is a very personal area, so please get in touch if you have any needs you would like to discuss.
