The PCC (Trustees) will apply the financial gifts received firstly for St John’s Building for Mission project with any remaining funds being used where most needed to support and expand the whole ministry of the Church.

Sunday 10 February 2019, launch of the Second Gift Appeal

We have now reached 60% of our overall target of £5.5m which is both exciting and encouraging. We already have nearly £2.5m in the bank with most of the remaining pledge money due to be given this year, which moves us ever nearer to being able to move out and commence the building work.

The tithe of £0.5m will be given to support a variety of activities including mission, evangelism, both within and outside the UK along with support for local Churches and other projects over time. The detailed work on how this money should be used will begin shortly as we prayerfully seek God’s call on this financial resource as part of our mission to help others to reach those who do not know Jesus.

Leonard Browne writes

Dear Friends

This is our second gift appeal for our building project as we seek to to realise our ‘Building For Mission’ vision: to reach people more effectively with the Good News of Jesus. The building project is part of Building for Mission – an extended and ‘fit for purpose’ building can be used as a renewed vehicle for God’s grace to be at work. One vital picture the Lord has given us sees our church buildings with a multitude of bridges leading to the various communities around us. We are to use these bridges to go out into these communities and to welcome these communities into the life of St John’s. Bridges into the lives of families, older people, those on the margins, children, youth and students, the frail and broken, young adults, the overworked, those struggling with loneliness, the unemployed, internationals and local people. St John’s will be the hub where we celebrate, grow, care, equip and go out from – as we all journey together. We are looking forward to expanding our current ministries, as is the plan for our Toddlers and their parents/carers and our weekly drop in ministry for Older People. We are excited about seeing new ministries spring up – around issues of wellbeing and recovery, or using our creative gifts. Our new buildings will be fully utilized to fulfill our calling. The other vital picture the Lord gave us was of the children of Israel in Exodus 14, on their way to the Promised Land. It was only as they responded to God’s call to move forward that the way ahead literally opened up before them, and the waves parted. As we move forward to complete this part of the Building For Mission vision we believe God will show us more of how we are to use this wonderful resource. This is part of our journey of faith – please join us on it!
