Joy Allan

Pastor for Young Adults

Hi, my name’s Joy, and I am the Pastor for Young Adults, a job which involves building community, gathering young adults, and running the internship program, I just love it! I’ve arrived from Aberdeen where I was writing a PhD (still writing in-fact!) looking at Pentecostal/Charismatic responses to depression. I also worked with the University Chaplaincy, in an Inter-faith role, as well as preaching/teaching in various venues across the city. I’ve lived across Italy and the UK, working with and worshipping with a mixture of denominations from Pentecostal – Presbyterian!

I LOVE long cups of coffee and heart-to-heart conversations, friends, community, music, books (somewhat of an obsession) Italy (especially Neapolitan Pizza!) playing with children, cooking big meals, dancing at ceilidhs, walking along Birmingham’s canals, walking (lazily) up mountains, and being part of St John’s! I am Scottish by heritage, but find Birmingham so friendly! I have plans to ride the Velo in a couple of years, but as I’m currently struggling up the Bristol Road you should keep an eye on my progress/commitment!
