‘Meeting desperate need with love and joy…’ Operation Christmas Child

Gereral A4 Poster 2016

Help demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world this Christmas

Please do consider getting involved in Operation Christmas Child as part of our church’s mission to the world, meeting desperate need with love and joy in the form of a simple gift

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest Christmas shoebox appeal, sending gift-filled shoeboxes to disadvantaged children in over 130 countries. Through the ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, children who would otherwise receive nothing receive precious gifts and through partnerships with local churches have a chance to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.

St John’s will be launching this year’s appeal at our Harvest Services on Sunday 2nd October.  We will receive completed shoeboxes at services on Sunday 6th November.

At St John’s this year…

This year we would love to dream big with our corporate contribution and therefore we ask you, your family, small-group or ministry area whether you could participate in the following:

  • COULD YOU JUST GIVE THE GIFTS WITHOUT THE BOX? This year through Sundays in October we will collect gifts at the drop-off point in the prayer room. These will then be put together into boxes by other members of the church family. Suggestions of what to donate can be found here.
  • JOIN US FOR A ‘PACKING MORNING’ in half-term (date tbc) where you and your families and groups can come together to make-up these boxes together. Bring your own contributions and we’ll make a whole load as a church family.
  • CAN’T FIND A SHOEBOX? We have flat-pack shoeboxes available at the packing morning and by contacting Chris (at church), subject to a 50p donation and availability!

Don’t limit yourself! Why not see how many your family or cell-group can help make? For more information visit the Operation Christmas Child website

Our Operation Christmas Child Shoebox coordinator this year is Angela.  Click on these links to read her recent blogs’ Calling all Santa’s Elves‘ and ‘Toothpaste, Gloves and Felt-tip Pens‘.

For more information about how you can get involved with our St John’s ShoeBox Collection contact Angela.

If you cannot bring your shoe box on 6th November then you can still bring it to Church any time in the week preceding that.
