Christmas Tour 2015 Cast

Please don’t cast this notice aside until Advent!

We need your help before please…

For those new to St John’s or if you’ve not come across the Christmas Tour before …. the strap line has been ‘A nativity play with a difference’.

One key difference is that the performance is by adults and watched by primary school children rather than vice versa. Another difference is that the ‘audience’ doesn’t sit and watch, instead the audience travels back in time and is guided by a lead character from the nativity story through scenes which are performed in different parts of the church building.  Each tour lasts 30 minutes.

The Christmas Tour – Thurs, Fri & Sat, 1st-3rd December

Thursday and Friday are ‘schools days’ when around 400 local primary school children – many of whom have no church connection – will see the performances and encounter the real meaning of Christmas.  It is an amazing privilege to have this opportunity.

On Saturday the performances are during the day and open to anyone.  Tickets will be available in the autumn.  Again, families with no church connection can come along and it is a great event to invite non-church families to.

Making it happen

After several years of leading this ministry, Alex Robertson is stepping down.  We are extremely grateful to Alex for her fantastic service in making this vital element of children’s ministry and outreach happen each year.

This year a new team is taking on the task – Diarmid and Liz Campbell, Linda Phillips and Jeremy Thompson – and we invite you to join us on this journey through your prayer support.

We are looking for actors but we are aware that it is not feasible for all actors to commit to three days.  Some people have done the school days, others the Saturday, some a mix of both, and a few every performance (Last year there were 27 performances!!)

For the past few year Matt Lowe has done a brilliant job as the ‘Tour Guide’.  Matt is unable to participate this year so we are looking for a male actor to take on that role or a couple of men who are willing to share this crucial role.

We will be running a script read through and team building event in the early autumn – date to be confirmed.  The dates for rehearsals will be on three Sunday afternoons and one Saturday in November.

If you are interested in acting on any or all of the three Christmas Tour dates please contact Linda Phillips at dartfx@blueyonder.co.uk     If you are a Tour ‘regular’ or you want to join the cast for the first time, please let Linda know.

Behind-the-scenes roles

If acting is not your gift or calling then there are several behind-the-scenes roles and we will share those later.

If you get involved acting or behind the scenes, we can guarantee lots of fun, some hard work in rehearsals, and the opportunity to be part of a fantastic creative adventure in mission!

‘Travel back to the first Christmas’ – It’s a new script this year, so no-one has seen this version before. (Spoiler alert –  Mary still has a boy)
