Firemen, Fun and Fairy Cakes at Toddlers!

Fire engine in car park

We had an amazing week at Toddlers.

On Tuesday 21st June we had a visit from Blue Watch at Woodgate Fire Station – and their fire engine! At about 10.15am we saw a large engine backing in to the church car park and at last the mysterious closure of the car park became clear!

Fire hoseBlue Watch gave us a wonderful morning. We climbed onto the engine, we took turns to spray the hose and we looked at amazing pieces of equipment such as axes, wrenches and bolt cutters. We also tried on helmets and trousers and boots and had fun with the helmet torches too.

Fire suitIt was all very exciting and we finished our morning off by singing a new version of our favourite song, ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ – ‘The wheels on the fire engine go fast, fast, fast!’  Everyone was happy including the firemen, who went back to the station with two plates of homemade cakes to share.

Cake Sale at ToddlersThe cakes were from the Toddler Cake Sale, which Angie Atkins ran on the same day. We raised £200 to be shared between the Malawi Fund and our own toddler friend Fergus. We are hoping that he and his family will be able to treat themselves to some new toys or a day out.

Tuesday was also my birthday and what a wonderful place to spend it. Jane Saunders made me a beautiful cake with, what seems to have become our Toddler motto, on it – Tea, Toys, Coffee and Comfort.

Tea toys coffee comfortTea, Toys, Coffee and Comfort are the words I used once in an email thanking my team for ‘transforming the church, each Monday and Tuesday, into a place of tea, toys, coffee and comfort, which indeed they do. I am so grateful to each one of them.

I was asked whether the firemen had been booked as a special birthday treat for me.  Definitely not, although I think they may have heard how many candles would be on my cake this year!

Toddlers is a great place to be. If you have a toddler of your own, or a couple of hours free on a Monday or Tuesday morning, then please do come and join us.   Kate and the Team.
