Elections to Deanery Synod -Nominations needed by 17th April

DEanery Synod imageWhat is the Deanery Synod?

This is a Synod comprising clergy and lay representatives from each local parish in the Harborne/Edgbaston/Bartley Green area. The number of lay representatives reflects numbers on the Electoral Roll.

St John’s is entitled to six lay representativese who are elected to the Synod for three years at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting, on 20th April.  Deanery Synod members are ex-officio members of their own PCCs.

Currently there are four vacancies for St John’s lay representatives, who will be eligible to serve for one year. Full elections are due in 2017. Representatives, proposers and seconders must be on St John’s Electoral Roll.

As a member of Deanery Synod you will be expected to attend the Deanery Synod meetings and the PCC meetings. There are usually three Deanery Synod meetings each year.

A copy of the Deanery Nomination form is available to download here or can be obtained at Church.

The deadline for nominations is Sunday 17th April.

Who should stand for Deanery Synod?

Anyone who is on St John’s Electoral Roll and who feels called to serve the local Church of England churches in the wider arena.

Synod can make suggestions, discuss current issues affecting the church, and make recommendations up to the Diocesan Synod.

Our current Deanery Synod reps are Helen Nixon and Issy Bartram who will willingly answer any questions that you may have.  Carol Dealey and Stella Jennings also attend Deanery Synod as members of Diocesan Synod.
