Help to plan the future of the church

Dave AtkinsA message from Dave Atkins, our Church Secretary

“We are about to enter a most exciting phase of our church’s development.

“Do you have ideas about how St John’s could become a better church? Can you see what is missing? Are you are seeking God’s promptings about the use of your time and skills?  If so please read on.

“In April there will be a chance to join the PCC – Parochial Church Council – which plans and discusses many of the issues affecting the running of the church.  We are looking for a full representation of our church membership, so don’t be put off by thinking that you are not the type, or not like other members on the PCC list.

“You may also like to consider standing for the Edgbaston Deanery Synod which is a group of representatives from all the local Church of England churches.  St John’s currently has six representatives on this Synod and there are four spaces to fill this year – initially for a one-year period only.

“At Deanery level discussion takes place on issues which affect the wider church, both locally and nationally.  Recommendations and submissions can also be referred on to the Birmingham Diocesan synod, which is the next level up, or back to PCCs. Deanery Synod reps automatically have a place on the PCC.

“Quieter, prayful and reflective people have as much a role on both PCC and Deanery Synod as more upfront personalities, so please consider this opportunity. There are only two things that are necessary:  You need to be a member of St John’s electoral roll, and have a sense that God is calling you to stand for election.

“If you want further details follow this link, contact me or any other PCC member.”

You can see the full list and photos of the current PCC on the main notice board.
