‘Pilgrimage’ – Lent Groups in Harborne

CT in Britain and Ireland

Lent Groups for 2016.

The material will be based on the Churches Together in Britain and Ireland Lent Course – ‘Pilgrimage’.

Each week we are invited to to gather in groups for reflection and spiritual conversation around a series of themes drawn from the overarching title of ‘Pilgrimage’.

Pilgrimage lent course 2016The idea is that we embark on a spiritual journey through Lent, both alone and in company, sharing with others our personal reflections, stories and insights.

The notion of ‘Pilgrimage’ is presented in the form of collections of sayings, images, wisdom and prayers from a variety of sources, which are gathered into a pack of seven conversation booklets suitable for personal and group use. Each member of a group will need their own copy of the pack, which will be used as a personal journal. Read more…

The conversation pack is available to view online although you may find it more convenient to purchase the printed version for use in groups. The booklets can be ordered online.

Churches Together in Harborne

Each church in Harborne is invited to arrange one or more groups which will be held on weekday evenings, and on Monday afternoons and Wednesday mornings during Lent.

Helen Nixon photoPlease contact Helen Nixon as soon as possible if you would like to participate in or lead a group as Lent starts early this year – Ash Wednesday is on 10th February.  Sign up sheets will also be available at church on the two Sundays prior to Ash Wednesday.

The course is called Pilgrimage and is based around conversations arising from material provided from various sources, with guidance to leaders about the format of the meetings and booklets which can be ordered online.

Helen has couple of spare booklets to show to anyone interested in leading a group.

There are seven suggested sessions, including a post Easter meeting to reflect on the experience:

The Open Road; Taking and Leaving; Becoming Present; Alone and Together; Living with Uncertainty; Sacred Encounter (Holy Week); Pilgrim Living (post-Easter)

Helen would like to invite a response from

  • anyone interested in leading a group, and able to offer a venue which can take around ten people if they want to lead on an evening other than Tuesdays or Thursdays, (when the prayer room at St John’s can be available), or in a different daytime group (as the Monday and Wednesday groups will be at other churches).
  • any existing home group who would like to use the material and has space to welcome a few visitors from other churches over the six or seven weeks
  • anyone interested in attending a group, if there is one available at a time when they are free, so that Helen can make sure they get the details.
