What happened at the APCM on 22nd April?

APCM LogoThe evening began informally with refreshments as people were arriving.  People were encouraged to sign in as a record of numbers attending.  176 people signed in at the meeting (over 200 in 2014). Electoral Roll membership was also checked as only those on the Roll can vote at the APCM.
(You can join the Roll at any point during the year as an expression of your membership of St John’s and for 2016 APCM)

Worship

The APCM started with worship and was followed by recording apologies for non-attendance.  The minutes from 2014 were approved and then the meeting moved onto the business of appointing the Church Wardens and electing new members to the PCC and Deanery Synod.

Elections

Church Wardens are elected for five years.  Elections to PCC are done in cycles. Five people are elected to the PCC each year for a three year period.  Elections to the Deanery Synod take place every three years.  More information about the details of the election process is given in the booklet ‘A Guide to the APCM’ available at church and online.

Reports

After the voting was finished the Electoral Roll report was given – there are 422 on the 2015 Roll (404 in 2014).   The Finance Report was then given by our treasurer David Harvey in which he told us about the encouragements from 2014 and explained the challenges of the year ahead.

The APCM Report and Accounts for 2015 was received and accepted by the meeting.  This was an abridged report as it had been decided to replace the ‘Life of St John’s’ section with video reports.  Two of these took place at various points in the meeting with a promise of more to follow during the next months.

The Chairman’s Report was given by Antony Spencer.

The results of the elections were then read out  – see list below – and the evening ended with prayer.

During the meeting special thanks were given for outgoing members of the PCC: Vinod Bhatia, Ray Buick, Diarmid Campbell, Martin Graham, Libby Hubbard (Church Secretary), Lesley Osborn and Becky Pearson.  Also to Marjorie Featherstone for all her work on the church accounts over many years.

The APCM was followed by a short meeting of the 2015/2016 PCC at which the members of the Standing Committee were appointed. This included the positions of Vice Chair of the PCC; Secretary to the PCC and St John’s Treasurer. The Chair of the Standing Committee is Antony Spencer.

Election Results
PCC
The following people were newly elected for three years: Ben Collins, Mark Roper, Jeremy Thompson and Lis Whybrow. David Harvey was re-elected for three years.

Deanery Synod:
There was no election for a two year vacancy on the Deanery Synod as no nominations were received.  This leaves the vacancy on the Deanery Synod which will be held over until elections in 2016.  St John’s is allowed five members on the synod who are elected for a three year period.
