‘More than one hour a week’ – where do parents ‘do faith’ with their children?

“We know that our faith is something that doesn’t just belong at church, but permeates our whole lives, our workplaces and our homes. However sometimes we can struggle to bridge this divide when there is so much else going on in our lives or for lack of seeing an obvious way to go about it.

“It is true that our children, to grow in faith, will need more than one hour a week in their Sunday group as research has found the number one factor in ‘sticky faith’ is their parents. But where do parents even begin to ‘do faith’ with their children?

“This is where I hope to be helpful in signposting a couple of resources which parents could use to explore faith with their children at home.

“In Lent, traditionally Christians are encouraged to consider giving something up or taking up something new, perhaps this could be the opportunity to help bring faith into the centre of your home. Lent and Easter are a rich season with themes and stories to explore together and I hope some of the ideas below capture your imaginations.”

Family Creative Journal front coverFollowing the popularity of Engage Worship’s ‘Advent family creative journal’, they have produced one for Lent to provide activities for families to explore together the themes of Lent and Easter.

This attractive, well-put-together workbook provides thoughtful, imaginative written and drawn activities and also active and creative ideas for the whole family to participate in. Whether you pick and choose the activities or choose the work through the journal from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday there is a range of ways for all-ages to engage in worship together from chatting to eating, playing to creating.

You may wish to order a journal for each child but this is certainly something to be embarked upon together.

You can order copies on the Engage Worship website
