Light and Life to all He Brings

Welcome to our Carol Service on Sunday 21st December at 7pm as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

This is a traditional service of carols and readings. St John’s Choir is led by Katherine Eldred, and St John’s Orchestra led by Alan Browning.  Ruth Hassall is speaking on ‘Light and Life to all He brings’.

Please invite your friends, neighbours and family.  The service will be followed by  festive refreshments in the Main Hall. (Non-alcoholic drinks will be served)

Silent Night

During the service we will join with churches all over the UK singing a specially written version of ‘Silent Night (Christ the Saviour)’.

Football match WW1This initiative is to commemorate the 100 yr anniversary of the famous unofficial Christmas ceasefire along the Western Front in 1914.  The carol Silent Night was heard from both sides before soldiers ventured into no man’s land to exchange gifts and even stage an impromptu football match.  German and British soldiers joined their voices together singing ‘Silent Night’ (or ‘Stille Nacht’).

You are invited to give a Christmas Offering at the service to those in need in our city.  St John’s has chosen two local charities.   Please place your gift in the baskets as you leave.  Your donation can be gift aided by filling in the appropriate envelope.  The two charities are:

Restore which works amongst asylum seekers and refugees who come seeking sanctuary in Birmingham www.restore-uk.org and
Birmingham City Mission which works amongst those who are in any kind of need in our city. www.birminghamcitymission.co.uk

This Carol Service is suitable for all and a good opportunity to invite friends, neighbours and family along to a special service for Christmas.
