Search your wardrobes and donate a coat

Coats hanging on pegsDonate a coat to someone who needs it.

Des & Kathy Cole invite you to search your wardrobe and turn out any coats you no longer need.

“In the past two years St John’s has sent nearly 300 coats each year to people who really need them.

“This year we’re collecting men’s, women’s and children’s (especially aged 3+) coats, hats gloves and scarves. We’re also asked for (new) men’s underwear.

“Please leave your donations at church on Sundays 30th November, 7th and 14th December.

“Men’s coats and underwear will go to Reachout Ministries based at City Road Methodist Church. The team leader Paul says that winter means it’s a busy time and being able to provide warm clothing for someone who is homeless is a vital part of their ministry.

“Women’s and children’s coats will go to a women’s refuge where mums and kids stay when they have to leave their home to escape domestic violence. We’ll also be sending some to a community support centre in Chelmsley Wood. Sahdaish, the manager, says that in the cold weather some children in Chelmsley Wood do not have coats and this is affecting their attendance at school.

“When we delivered coats last year to the women’s refuge they were so glad to have them that one lady took one before we had even passed through reception.”
