‘Flush Poverty Away’ – Toilet Twinning with Tearfund

Beccy Allen and Margaret Decker write to tell us about an initiative they would like us consider.

“We are writing to ask if you and your home group would like the opportunity to be involved in an initiative to twin the toilets in our church building with toilets in other parts of the world.

“We would be supporting a Tearfund project called ‘Flush Poverty Away’ which aims to build safe toilets that will provide good sanitation for small communities in countries such as Burundi, Cambodia and DR Congo. We have 15 toilets in our church buildings and our aim is to twin them all.

What it will involve
“Each toilet will cost £60 to twin and that is the amount of money that we are asking you to raise. This will cover the building of a new toilet.

“Your group will see a certificate hung in each church loo that will give the coordinates of the toilet you have sponsored. This will mean that you can look up your twin online.

“We are asking that you would let us know by half term (Sunday October 26th) if you are interested in being involved and we would want all monies to have been raised and collected by the end of November at the latest.

“We will allocate toilets on a first come first served basis and would really encourage you to get involved in this very practical and exciting project that will make a real difference in people’s lives.

Further Information

“You can find out more about Tearfund’s ‘Flush Away Poverty’ campaign at www.toilettwinning.org

“If you have any further questions please do speak to Margaret Decker or myself – as we would love to get you and your group involved in this fund raising opportunity.”

With every blessing,
Beccy Allen and Margaret Decker
