‘discovering their place in God’s story’ – St John’s Children’s Ministry

St John's Children's Ministry is a safe, creative community where children can encounter God and discover their place in God's story. What’s it all about?
Jesus said “the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” when referring to the little children in his midst.

Taking that seriously means that St John’s children’s work isn’t about providing a holding place for our children until they are old enough to join the adults and “do church properly”.
It’s about providing a space where children can encounter God, give expression to their worship, be taught the story of God and discover they have a part in it.

Children at a tableIt’s exciting and rewarding work leading our children into relationship with God and helping them grow in living faith.
Our Children’s Ministry Groups on Sunday:

Movers & Shakers (Crèche) 0 – 2 ½ years old
Strong Towers – 2 ½ – 4 years old
Mighty Warriors – Reception & Year 1
Miracle Makers – Year 2 – Year 4
Ignite – Year 5 & 6

How can you be involved?

There are broadly speaking two different roles:

  • Teachers/leaders/storytellers –

Those who can lead up front, teaching/storytelling. This looks different in each age-group due to the size of the group and age maturity.

In Strong Towers, leading involves telling a Bible story and unpacking it for about a dozen 2 ½ – 4 year olds.
In Miracle Makers, leading this involves leading and teaching the session for up to 40 children in school Yrs 2 to 4.

  • Small group leaders/helpers –

Those who hold it all together at a small group and one-to-one level, helping and supporting the children by getting to know them, listening to them, praying with them and walking with them on their journey of faith.

Children in a group on the floorParticular needs at this time:

  • More people willing to do the story time/teaching with Strong Towers
  • More people willing to do the teaching/leading in Mighty Warriors.
  • We would appreciate more female support in Ignite.

Would you like to explore the possibility of serving in the Children’s Ministry?
A lot of our faithful children’s team serve nearly every week, can you help share the load?
