Christian Aid Week is over for another year – many thanks to all those who helped

Once again Christian Aid Week is over – envelopes delivered & collected, money counted and banked.   The Grand Total was £3309.61!

Angie AtkinsAngie Atkins reports on the week: “We were blessed with a beautiful sunny week and I’m sure many of us enjoyed an evening walk in the spring sunshine knocking on doors and collecting the envelopes. Many people were very pleasant and gave cheerfully.

“Most of us felt that fewer people were willing to give money but the majority were not unpleasant & some of us had some friendly conversations. One boy was most insistent that he showed the collectors his violin – he had played it in town in support of Christian Aid.

“At another house a child came to the door with her envelope containing £30. Money she had collected by doing odd jobs around the house, including washing cars & keeping her room tidy!

“Another person said he wasn’t interested but then changed his mind and said maybe he should be interested! He was then told a bit about Christian Aid and told about the website. He did give a generous gift in the end!

“Apart from three exceptions the money collected from each road was down compared to last year but the final total was £2731.61, about £150 down on last year but £500 up on 2012. About £1400 was Gift Aided which means another £350.

“This money could not have been raised without the help of many people – envelope deliverers, collectors and the counters. We are very grateful to all those people and would especially like to thank Pathfinders, Authentic & The Rangers for their help delivering envelopes. Thanks too for all your prayers and words of encouragement.

“In addition to the house to house collection Pathfinders & Authentic raised a further £213 from their cake sales – well done! £15 has also been sent to Christian Aid from the sale of quizzes – making a grand total of £3309.61”

Angie will be holding a Traidcraft stall at the Women’s Conference on 7th June at St John’s with Michele Guinness.
