Moorpool Sunday Schools, a step back in time

Beryl Beavis has sent us two photos of Moorpool Hall from the 1930s with the following comments:Wedding Party outside Moor Pool Hall

“Seeing the notice re Moor Pool in the Weekly Roundup reminded me that I found a photo while at my sister’s at Christmas. It is of my parent’s (Mr Eric Apperly and Miss Dorothy Rowley) wedding reception held at Moor Pool hall on June 3rd 1939.

“The hall as you know is just about at the centre of St John’s parish. What caught my attention was the notice on the board on the left of the door (as you look at it). Sydney Smith, father -in- law to Elinor Smith*, was one of the leaders, and my father taught in the afternoon, but I hadn’t realised there was also a morning class as well.

“Wouldn’t it be good to see it used like that again?”Notice Board odd

The notice about the Moor Pool Estate was in the Weekly Roundup for 13th March and also appeared in the Welcome Sheet for 16th and 23rd March 2014. More information can be found out about the The Moor Pool Heritage Trust at

*Elinor Smith now lives in a nursing home in Cheltenham.
